Our Historical Preservation District

160 Main Street, better known as the old Santander Bank, is the site located in our Downtown Historical Preservation District. The Borough became the Defendant in a Builder’s Remedy lawsuit for this location.

Despite the numerous pleas of the residents of Matawan, the current Majority Council refused to ““roll the dice” and take the issue back to court, therefore all voting (4-2) for the Zoning Ordinance change to give the original owner the allowance for more Residential AND Commercial. 3.5 Stories on the front of Main Street and 4 Stories facing Jackson Street residents.
